The State of Profitability in the Video Game Industry

Release: February 2027 Last updated 21 October 2026

How many games recover their development budget, and what changes the odds?

Most profitability figures in the industry come from surveys of studios or from a few public successes. We estimate the development budget and net Steam revenue of more than 100,000 games, so we can measure break-even and hit rates across the whole market.
